Acura RDX: Mid-size SUV Delivers On Style, Safety

The 2021 Acura RDX delivers an exciting driving experience for outdoor enthusiasts no matter where the road leads.

This midsize luxury SUV comes in an all-wheel drive powered by a 272-hp, turbocharged 2.0 four-cylinder engine synced with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Drivers can calibrate the powertrain’s behavior using the Integrated Dynamics System knob located conveniently in the middle of the dashboard. Driving mode selections include Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Snow which adapts the engine, engine note, transmission and steering to all terrains.

With a wheelbase of 108.3 inches, this RDX seats five people comfortably with plenty of room for camping equipment for outdoor adventures. Heated and power-adjustable front seats are available in synthetic leather in the base trim and real leather in alternate versions.

Rear seats have 38 inches of legroom. Behind the second row, cargo space measures 29.5 cubic feet. Folding the second row expands capacity to 58.9 cubic feet.

There is an extra two cubic feet of storage beneath the cargo floor. Also, a separate compartment under the center console between the driver and front passenger offers handy storage for frequently used supplies.

The RDX noiselessly cruises at highway speeds because of its eight-inch ground clearance, thick glass and fortified roof pillars. A 10-inch infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD radio and Bluetooth. It is placed high on the dashboard and may be conveniently operated via a touchpad located below the button-controlled gear shifter.

The 2021 RDX earned a five-star crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It earned the highest ratings of five stars in the side crash test and four stars in frontal crash and rollover evaluations.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the RDX Top Safety Pick+--the organization’s highest honor. The IIHS also gave it the highest rating of Good in all six crash tests for how well the headlights illuminate the road ahead.

All models include driver and safety assistance features such as front and rear parking sensors, rear-cross traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring.
