Integra’s stellar performance in crash avoidance tests reflects Acura’s efforts to enhance safety procedures across its entire production lineup.
These efforts have been noted by IIHS: this is the fourth Acura model to be awarded the Institute’s highest possible rating in 2022.
The sporty five-door hatch received a “Good” rating in all IIHS crashworthiness tests and a “Superior” designation for its crash avoidance technology—Collision Mitigation Braking System.
This system uses a front radar transceiver and millimeter wave radar to monitor traffic conditions and determine distance or closing speeds of objects to avert danger. The CMBS alerts drivers of potential collisions by issuing an audio-visual warning, before automatically applying the brakes, if the driver is slow to respond to prevent imminent crash impact.
AcuraWatch Safety Technology
Collision Mitigation Braking System is available in AcuraWatch—a collection of sensing safety technologies fitted in Acura sedans and SUVs.
Features include:
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Lane Departure Steering Assist
- Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Traffic Sign Recognition
The 2023 Integra also comes with a remodeled Advanced Compatibility Engineering body designed to provide passengers with more protection in frontal collisions.
A network of sturdy steel elements distributes crash energy from the vehicle to reduce the force of impact transferred into the passenger compartment. For a vehicle to earn a Top Safety Pick + award, it must score top marks in six-crash categories: driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength and head restraints.
The vehicle must also qualify by having an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian crashes for its front-crash prevention system and a “Good” or “Acceptable” headlight score across all trims.
