The Acura TLX Type S limited edition combines a splash of luxury with a peppy, sporty sedan.
The new TLX Type S is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine putting out 355 horsepower and 354 pound feet of torque and represents an additional 66hp and 98 Ib-ft over the previous TLX engine. This makes it the most powerful engine ever placed in a sedan.
It’s the first Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) on a turbo engine. This technology improves highway fuel efficiency by automatically making the V6 engine run on 6 or 3 cylinders, depending on driving conditions.
When high output is required, the engine runs on full V6 power. But when cruising at a lower speed, the engine spontaneously switches to 3 cylinders.
The TLX powertrain is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission fine-tuned for more aggressive acceleration and increased torque power.
It features stronger gears and upgraded clutches for quicker shifts than the standard TLX.
The V6 features a single quick-spooling turbocharger that develops maximum torque from a low 1,400 rpm, providing a wave of generous linear thrust almost immediately.
Acura estimates the Type S can cover 0-60 mph in about 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph. An external transmission cooler keeps the engine from overheating.
Acura’s 2021 TLX comes with 16-way adjustable bolsters for driver and front passenger seats.
The ELS Studio 3D 17-speaker premium audio system and information display are operated via a touchpad on the center console.
Functions are also controlled from the steering wheel. The TLX connects to Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Wi-Fi-hotspot.
TLX Type S comes fortified with the AcuraWatch suite of safety and driver-assistance technology which is standard for all models.
Features include lane keeping assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitor and the world’s first front passenger airbag designed to minimize head rotation during a collision.
